SP West Oakland Diesel Shops(1967)
Author: SpHero2015

Well kids, I finally found the CD I've been looking for with a bunch of old scanned SP photos from the bay area on it. Here's the first of many... Is that a Krauss-Maffei down there? Enjoy!

Interesting, had semaphores in the signal bridge past West Oak Interlock's tower

Brings back memories of my "chain gang" days in pool 4. I used to love trying to spot the miniature semaphore arms on the dwarf lead signals when running east out towards 34th Street.

Great shots, SPHero2015! Besides the K-M, the PA's (power for 101/102) should be at W.O.D.S. on Diesel 8 or 7, right?!?
Interestingly, when I arrived out here in '88, the trackage here was basically the same. I remember switching the coachyard and asking the W.Oak tower for reverse moves in the plant. I also remember waiting at the washrack to come back in while the Espee freight parade went by.
That yard job (Amtrak 2nd trick) was pretty low-key, indeed, and had quite a bit of spot time,,, Thanks for sharing and look forward to more!

I knew the Peralta street bridge had semaphores (before my time), but was not sure whether they were electrically or pnumatically controlled. It's a bit too far to definitively identify, but it does appear to be pnumatic.

The ground double with the SA plate would later be converted to a triple, with the bottom unit for the lead to the Diesel Shop (if I haven't forgotten).

By the light, I would say 102 has left the Coach Yard for 16th st

Those things! They were on Main line 1 and 2, had rubber blades, and could display only R and G (stop and clear).

I think you're right. WO was an air plant, (although those were ABS block signals, not interlocking signals) and that bridge wasn't as far away from WO Interlocking as the EE of the Desert was from 16th St Tower (also an air plant).

The only line-up readily visible is between the Wash Rack and the 60 Lead.

Didn't that Trains article say the PAs that came
in on 101 were supposed to go out on 102? If so,
looks like they should be by Colfax.

If they were by Colfax, it would be dark or close to it
