Maroon Monday, 3 Shots of a Rock Island F-unit
Author: MartyBernard

Here are three photographs of CRI&P 675, an F7A built in March 1949.

1. From the Roosevelt Road Viaduct next to 488, a RS3, built in 1951 and a transfer caboose on March 30, 1971.

2. At Englewood Union Station on April 21, 1965 with the older paint scheme. I think this is an outbound dummy.

3. Same as Picture 2 but I think with an inbound dummy. In the distance you can see the Englewood "L" bridge and a NYC switcher and another headlight.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

The third shot is interesting, what with all the Boxcars in their paint scheme's along with the Rock F. But,on that NYC train on the right. Is that a NYC Baldwin I see on that train? Sure looks like it to me. Great shots Marty, keep em coming. Ben

Who's freight house is that in the background of photo #1? It looks like it was on borrowed time even back in 1971.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Fantastic scenes! I really enjoy #1 with the little transfer job.

I think you are right. Good eyes. I took a shot (below) of NYC BLH DRS44-1500 #7301 about a year earlier from the Roosevelt Road Viaduct. It's not a very good shot but is documentation.

That is what was left of the NYC facilities after they moved out.

Picture 2 You are correct it is indeed an outbound dummy. It is on track 4
which is ABS current of traffic south. An inbound "express" that does not
stop at Englewood is passing thru on Track 5 which is block signaled in both
directions. You can see the express' engine if you look behind the last bi-level

Picture 3 Also correct, it is an inbound dummy on track 3 which is ABS
current of traffic north

Great stuff!

Rare Baldwins btw, NYC only had 2, both re-engined with EMDs.
