Maroon Monday - A view from the old Blue Island Tower
Author: Englewood

A westbound Rocket viewed from the old Blue Island tower.
Probably taken in the mid to late 1950's.
Through trains did not stop at B.I. at this time.
The engineer probably has it wide open leaving the 60 MPH territory for the 90 MPH territory.

Newspaper clipping? I hope you don't mind but I felt compelled to do a bit of post-processing and was able to bring out a bit more detail. I love the old Rambler sitting in the foreground.

The car on the left might be Frasier or Kaiser?

No, an attempt to scan an old beat up print.
I didn't know whether to have it scan in true color or grayscale
so I selected true color.

Thank you very much for the clean up!!!!

Hmm... I never knew there was a tower to the SE of the depot. The only one I've known of has been the current one just north of the station.

Interesting!

The present tower was built in conjunction with the changes made
necessary by the widening of the Cal-Sag Channel in the early 60's

The previous tower was south of Grove St. and east of the tracks.
