An E7A for Maroon Monday
Author: MartyBernard

CRI&P E7A 642 at Vermont Street Station (Blue Island, IL) on June 24, 1977. She was built in February 1948 for the Rock Island.

This photo made me wonder about what happened to the Rock Island facilities north of this station in Blue Island. The second photo is from Bing Maps showing where the roundhouse once was.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Great shot! I like E units, I like the Rock Island, and I like that red and yellow paint. Those were the days!!

Must have been a Limited or Express out of La Salle, as it's on the main line, and not the "Beverly Hills" line...

I would say that it is one of the two "300" series trains that
made the Main Line stops at 95th, 99th, 103rd and 111th Sts.
It then backed into the coach yard at B.I.

That is a nice scheme. When did the red & yellow with large lettering scheme start (Mo./Yr.) and what were the first units that wore it?
