When I looked at this fine shot, it seemed vaguely familiar, so I did a bit of rummaging:

Work train with 3711 & 3753 headed west up the hill from Truckee about a mile west of Donner Summit, on June 23, 1975.
Noting the date, you might be able to figure out the reason I was there.

The DAY after #4449 summited Donner, Norden recorded the heaviest single day June -Summer snowfall of 18"!
