Another great photo, Marty. This appears to be west of the location
of St. Croix Tower. Note that the "Q" has yet to be built at this time.
Their roadbed was built along the shoreline directly to the left of the
train in the photo.

great picture. this answers a question i have had for a long time. the milw cut into the rock with a steeper but shorter line instead of putting fill into the river like the cbq did to get to their easier grade into cottage grove and then newport. thanks, dave, out.

The Chicago, Burlington and Northern didn't build here until 1886.
