The head house has been renovated as a hotel and the trainshed covers an area used as a skating rink and for social events. To the hotel's credit, there is a small, but nice, display of Milwaukee Road memorabilia and models as well as Milwaukee Road posters. Attached are photos of the head house and trainshed interior taken a year ago. It's worth noting the amount of development in the immediate area. You would have no way of knowing the extent of the yards and track in the area by looking at it today.

It sat abandoned, deteriorating, and threatened with destruction for decades but somehow managed to be eventually rescued. Today it anchors a busy corner in downtown Minneapolis. While part of the train shed is an indoor ice rink/conference center, about half of it covers an outdoor parking lot. Living nearby, I enjoy wandering through the public areas of the hotel to view the artifacts on display, and especially enjoy the large-format Milwaukee Road advertising posters adorning the walls. It's worth visiting when you travel near the Twin Cities.
Thanks for sharing the historic photos. Steve Mitchell http://www.yardgoatimages.com Date: 10/22/14 12:06 Re: Milwaukee Road Minneapolis Depot Pictures Author: bluesboyst wonderful... Pic 4 WOW.....What we lost.......let's put it back.....
