Date: 10/22/14 13:33 Re: SP Train 28, Where is it? Author: DavidP #28 was the eastbound Overland, which connected in Ogden with UP #10, the City of St. Louis. The photo appears to be from the late fifties as the lead unit is in the grey scheme introduced in 1957 or 58. It's also carrying a dome, which was shifted to the City of San Francisco around the middle of 1960.
Dave Date: 10/22/14 16:02 Re: SP Train 28, Where is it? Author: BoilingMan Colfax- taken from the Highway 174 overpass. I'm headed down there right now to p/u my daughter from High School- I'll take an "After" shot for you and post it here this evening.
SR Okay, here is the same spot today. The Nevada County Narrow Gauge (Colfax to Nevada City) ran parallel to the SP on the left- were the truck is in the original photo. Went I moved to this area in 1982 the 3rd track was still there along with the sheds in the lower left (there were 3 of them). SR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/22/14 17:53 by BoilingMan. Well done before/current shots, Colfax is a great railroad town in the Mother Lode country of the Sierra Nevada. Pure rail history of the first water. Posted from iPhone |
