Nostalgia & History > SP Train 1-632 & UP1989 50 years apartDate: 10/23/14 09:31 SP Train 1-632 & UP1989 50 years apart Author: photobob Heres a shot I took back in 1961 of Train 1-632 at MP330 at Sawmill Curve above Dunsmuir also a shot I took in 2011 at the same spot of the Rio Grande Heritage Unit. Little did I know back in 1961 I would be photographing trains in the same location with a camera that doesn't use film. The SP would no longer own the tracks and a Rio Grande painted unit owned by the new owners the UP would be passing by. And what are those boxes stacked on top of each other?

I, for one, would have taken so many more photos. But then, the SP was going to be there forever, right? Or so we thought.

Judging by your posts of shots taken in your early years, you lived in the Bay area . . . so when did you start going up to Dunsmuir and environs . . . in your late teens or early twenties? And did you get up to Dunsmuir and The Loop often . . . obviously you loved the area as much as I do . . . but the big difference if you now live there! Craig mcmrailvideos.com Date: 10/23/14 12:44 Re: SP Train 1-632 & UP1989 50 years apart Author: photobob My first trip to Dunsmuir was with my Dad in 1958 when I was fourteen. I started taking photos in 1959.

Still, I took very few photo's and what few I took are in my ex's attic - I may never see them. I miss the SP of my younger years in the Davis/Sacramento/Donner Pass area of the 70's and 80's.
