Nostalgia & History > Milwaukee Road number gameDate: 10/23/14 15:37 Milwaukee Road number game Author: FT With several posts on the Milwaukee recently, I thought I would add these views to the conversation. Roster collecting turns up some interesting twists now and then.
The hard to follow renumberings in their history brought me to a roster in the book "The Milwaukee Road Diesel Power" by Hyde and Sanders. First scan is a #468 taken 1-10-69 St Paul, MN no credit name given. Second is another #468, Wausau, WI 5-20-73 by Paul Hunnell. These are rather different beasts, even though they were both produced by ALCO. The first is an RS-3, delivered as 2493 to 468 1st - to 455 3rd Second started as an RSC-2 delivered as 996 - 1st to 493- 1st to 455- 2nd to 468-2nd - to 462-3rd and at some point converted with Blunt trucks and derated to 1200hp The roof duct looks similar to SOO ALCOS' of the era. And there was another #468, an MP15, which wouldn't be confused with the previous ALCO's. It went on to Soo and CP ownership. Not on par with testing DNA, but makes roster searching interesting. Keith A Date: 10/23/14 17:26 Re: Milwaukee Road number game Author: MartyBernard So is it RS3 or RS-3? RSC2 or RSC-2? Did ALCo use a dash or not in model designations?
I'm sure its GP7 and not GP-7, but I've seen the latter. Is it VO-1000 or VO1000? H12-44 or H-12-44? Marty Bernard Date: 10/23/14 18:06 Re: Milwaukee Road number game Author: FT Well, Marty,
This is how the classes are listed in the Milwaukee Diesel Power book. I trust Dale Sanders to use accepted terms. Keith A Date: 10/24/14 11:54 Re: Milwaukee Road number game Author: retcsxcfm Keith,
