Nostalgia & History > Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, NebraskaDate: 10/24/14 09:51 Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, Nebraska Author: terrybaker At one time, the CB&Q had a through track across Southern Nebraska that ran from Oxford NE, on the Omaha-Denver main, to Napier MO, on the north-south Pacific Jct. IA-Kansas City main. The CB&Q system map displayed this operation in the bolder line that appeared to be reserved for major trunks (see Image 1). I don't know to what extent it was ever operated as an end-to-end main, but nothing had been abandoned entering the BN era.
Fast forward to 2014 and very little of this line remains, other than short segments. The rails still extend to Red Cloud, but it is at the end of one of those segments. And fortunately, the depot at Red Cloud was saved and appears to be well preserved. It's worth a visit should you be in the vicinity. 1) CB&Q map from June 1964 Official Guide Date: 10/24/14 09:54 Re: Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, Nebraska Author: terrybaker Date: 10/24/14 09:59 Re: Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, Nebraska Author: terrybaker Date: 10/24/14 10:02 Re: Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, Nebraska Author: terrybaker Date: 10/24/14 17:51 Re: Depot Friday: CB&Q Red Cloud, Nebraska Author: twjurgens Thanks for a well done post!
