What is NWRI 701?
Author: MartyBernard

This is NWRI 701. She also has the number 203 on her nose. I found her this afternoon in Vancouver, WA. Except for that black mess mid-hood (is she blowing oil?), she looks pretty good but was not idling. By Googling "NWRI" I learned both Canada and the U.S. have a National Water Research Institute. The rosters at Diesel Shop did not help.

So what did I photograph this afternoon?

Thanks in advance,
Marty Bernard

NWRI in this case stands for North West Rail Institute.

Looks like one of the Colorado and Wyoming SW-8s that was at Oregon Steel Mills. The oil slobber is from extended idling such as would occur in a steel mill or grain elevator.

Well, that makes sense. Thanks. The North West Rail Institute according to there web site is in Vancouver, WA not far from where I found the switcher in an area with a lot of industrial track on which to practice.

When it arrived back in January of this year it looked much better.
