Nostalgia & History > Season’s end, into the sunsetDate: 10/30/14 04:31 Season’s end, into the sunset Author: santafe199 Autumn is here. The spectacular colors of death are everywhere. The falling leaves & dying fields paint our world in red and yellow and orange. And finally, all color is gone. Our world symbolically fades to black. But we are not concerned. Winter will pass and spring will soon reward us with new life, a fresh start.
Another baseball season has come to a close. Another team will wear the title of world champs. Ken Burns’ PBS documentary (titled) Baseball states it best: “Baseball follows the seasons. It begins with the fond expectancies of spring, and ends with the hard facts of autumn.” The “hard facts” seen in this image from 33 years ago seems to give us a palette of orange to silhouette the black in a Giant sky. Maybe in honor of exuberant fans, flushed in the excitement of victory? But disappointed fans can take symbolic heart: There is also a background of Royal Blue accenting the black & gold in this image to remind everyone what a great World Series it was this year… 1.
