Interesting to see a short string of ore hoppers behind the locos in the first shot. I would have thought they are in dedicated service and in a unit train.

We SP nuts are always discussing the demise of the Black Widow paint scheme on various types of units (evidence: see CrudPunko's thread below).

So Marty, when did the last maroon/orange paint (always one of my favorites)finally disappear from MILW F's?

I assume those are new ore jennies being delivered. The third one has some sort of top on it.

I don't sure know. I solid color paint job was an economy move.

The "top" on the third ore car looks to be an extension for taconite pellets, which had lower density than natural ore.

Those are nice! I can't believe how clean that one is in the first shot. What a beautiful looking unit, great job!!

Can't answer the question on the last maroon and orange unit. However,
number one looks to be a fresh paint job, and Marty's undoubtedly correct
that it was an economy measure.

The last shot is also interesting. This was clearly shot at the West
Milwaukee Shops. Notice next to the right side number board the sheet
metal damage. The unit obviously sideswiped something. What the object
is above the cab I have no clue, although it looks to be a horn and
not a light. The Mars lights on the freight engines were blanked out
by the 70's.
