How About Some Green Bay and Western?
Author: MartyBernard

On August 23, 1966 I visited the Green Bay and Western Yard at Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc. Here are three photos from that visit. The roster information is from http://www.greenbayroute.com

1. GBW 304, an Alco RS-2, built February 1950, retired in 1976, and scrapped.

2. GBW 305, an Alco RS-3, built May 1951, retired in 1993, and in 1996 sold to Gopher State Railway Museum, New Prague, Minn. For more details please visit http://www.greenbayroute.com/detaileddiesel.htm

3. Overview shot looking toward the diesels.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

The tan building with the brown roof to the right of the main is the GBW depot, which has since been razed. Spent a bit of time in there during the WC years, even though the yard office was on the other side of the river. It's not that impressive a structure, which would probably account for the paucity of photographs, so I was pleasantly surprised to see it included in this great view of the yard looking east from the 1st St. N. crossing.

Thanks for the memories!

Fantastic pics! Made a trip up there in the mid 80s just to get my Alco fix and to catch the lake boats on the East end. I was not disappointed. To bad its gone, Ken

Actually one is an RS2 and the other is an RS3 even though they have sequential numbers. Yes they were neat and the sides pretty much kept their color without much color correction.

The GB&W power looks great and I like that sharp Q boxcar too. Thanks for showing these excellent photos, and for the link to the fantastic GB&W site.
