Nostalgia & History > A Plethora of Fallen FlagsDate: 10/31/14 14:51 A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: NKP715 Don't get to use that word often. It's July of 1968,
and here's 4 units ready to be shipped from GE in Erie - U30C's for the CB&Q (technically C&S) and C&O, and U33C's for EL and GN. Date: 10/31/14 14:59 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: callum_out Athearn?

Who would ever guess that combo would be captured together? Any other photos from GE during that era?
Thanks for sharing. Date: 10/31/14 18:02 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: dh1205 pal77 Wrote:

My vote is for the Q. Adam Date: 10/31/14 21:59 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: MartyBernard I'd go for the GN if it were in GN colors. Or the Burlington if it were in "Everywhere West" colors. The C&O scheme is boring. So that leaves the EL by default, which is the DL&W scheme. But it is nice when a plethora happens!
Marty Bernard Date: 11/01/14 00:31 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: Seventyfive This is one of the best new power photos I have seen. The GE building and sign is icing on the cake. My pick for first place is the C&O motor; really like that color scheme when new or clean. Can't thank you enough for the great photo.

Date: 11/01/14 06:32 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: ShastaDaylight A fine photo that illustrates how colorful and diverse America's railroads were before deregulation, mergers, and system "rationalization..." Thanks for sharing...
ShastaDaylight Date: 11/01/14 08:22 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: ntharalson Nitpick. Not "technically C&S". Colorado and Southern had autonomous management
into the BN, and was not formally merged until about 1980. While the Q, later BN, was the majority stockholder, the C&S had it's own executives and board, and it's employees senority was separate fro the Q's. The FW&D however, was wholly owned by the C&S and existed basically to satisfy a Texas law that required all railroads that operated in that state to have their executive offices in that state. That's why there were various subsidiaries of the railroads, e.g. Gulf Coast and Santa Fe, Panhandle and Santa Fe, Texas and New Orleans, among the most prominent, that operated in Texas for years. Personally, I'll take the C&S engine with the EL second. But then, I'm biased to the Midwest. Would love a shot from the other end of the "consist" as well as this. Fab shot. BSB Date: 11/02/14 01:29 Re: A Plethora of Fallen Flags Author: redneckrailfan |
