Nostalgia & History > Ted Wurm: Tidewater Southern, Manteca, CA, 1971Date: 11/22/14 01:39 Ted Wurm: Tidewater Southern, Manteca, CA, 1971 Author: Evan_Werkema A few weeks back, Zephyrus posted a request for pictures of California's Tidewater Southern Ry Manteca Branch.
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3559984 The following three images from the Western Railway Museum Archives were taken by Ted Wurm at Manteca in 1971. They were the only three negatives in that particular envelope, and I didn't find any others from that day or from the Manteca Branch among his other Tidewater Southern negatives. Regardless, the images he did capture at least leave no doubt as to their location. Date: 11/22/14 03:26 Re: Ted Wurm: Tidewater Southern, Manteca, CA, 1971 Author: kgmontreal I can hear the RS-1.

If anyone's interested, Soundtraxx nailed the sound with their 539 Turbo sound decoder. I have several installed in some Atlas RS-1's & the sound brings back many fond memories of watching(and hearing) NYSW's fleet of these locos on a daily basis on NYSW's Passaic Branch.

That WP airslide is either going to or from the sugar plant. TS entered from the back of the plant. Huh? Both the TS and the SP entered the Spreckles plant from the west side, the spurs running side-by-side after crossing Moffat Blvd. Once inside inside, crossovers connected the two, and a couple of other tracks, so that the Spreckles center cab GE could switch the cars around in the plant.
