SP's famous (at the time) deadline at the Bullring in Los Angeles on May 9, 1980. How many different models can you spot? (© KPR Media Services, all rights reserved)

I know there were more models present but in the photo I can make out U25B, U33C, GP9, GP35, SD45 and what looks like a C630.

Photos like this are depressing. Someone actually took pictures of Alco PAs being cut up. It took me weeks to recover. Photos of abandoned ROWs have a similar effect, especially if the ties are still somewhat in place. Scrap metal dealers are such vultures! Nice picture though. Okay, it's off to therapy.

All the SD45s were stored in Bullring Yard waiting to go thru the GRIP program. All 4 U28Bs were here, as well as most of the U33C/U30C/U28C fleet. The GEs and Alcos will never see service on the SP ever again.

This may help SP diesel fans feel a little better: Restored U25-B 3100 was busy earlier this month helping Thomas the Tank Engine keep those heavy North American railway cars on the move at Orange Empire Ry. Museum in Perris CA. Not quite like hauling freight out of West Colton, but still being a Very Useful Engine.
