CNO&TP's Gest St. Yard building in Cincinnati OH
Author: penncentral74

On November 10th, 2014 at 1:00PM the ex-Southern Railway Gest St. Administration Building for the Southern's Cincinnati OH yard was demolished.

This building was built at the expense of the Cincinnati Union Terminal Company's expense, as the construction of their facility displaced most of the exiting Gest St. Yard site.

As consolation, they provided this building for the use of the Terminal Superintendent and associated staff.

The building was put up with copper gutters and downspouts.

Gest St. Yard was named for a 19th century local investor/planner named Erastus Gest. He put some effort into the establishment of the Little Miami Railroad, later to become the Pennsylvania to Columbus, OH.

Diminished use has been cited locally as the reason, but some also say it is to be the site of an 'online' engine servicing area because the Southern's local engine facilities are in Ludlow KY, directly across the Ohio River.

Sad, I remember visiting there in 1983.
