Alcos, anybody?
Author: santafe199

A few days ago I posted several GP-9 B units that had been gleaned from UP’s active roster. I found these forlorn units, mostly in Paducah, KY on a 1977 vacation trip to Nashville, TN. On the return home I passed through Jackson, TN and found some more deadline fodder. I shot everything I could point my camera at, including the background GM&O stuff in these scenes. But until I get around to scanning my entire GM&O section, here are 3 inert ICG Alcos. Happy burbling!

1. ICG 1269

2. ICG 1280

3. ICG 1283
(3 photos taken in a Jackson, TN deadline on May 12, 1977)

Thanks for looking back!

Thanks for posting. I always welcome good quality photos of dead lines, steam or diesel, and these certainly reflect good quality.

How about some "live" Alcos? Orange Empire Ry. Museum in Perris CA has four in more or less running condition.

1) Ex-SP RSD-12 2958 (in Metro Stevedore colors from its service in the Port of Los Angeles), SP S-4 1474, and OERM RSD-1 1956 (ex USDOT-012) in front of Barn 4.

2) OERM RSD-1s 1956 and 1975 in MU on the Museum main line. These were originally built for overseas service on wartime railways in 1942. The three-axle trucks were specified for running on lightly-built foreign lines. They came to OERM as USDOT-012 and 015.

3) Ex-SP 2958 smokes it up in the Barn 4 yard.
