A large Bolivian water heater
Author: photobob

Locals line up under FCLPA #350 for some hot water. This was a regular occurrence in El Alto in 1966 while I was there. The trains would come up from La Paz, located in the valley below, and the locals would gather around the locomotives to get hot water. The elevation at this location is over 13,000 feet. This is really nostalgia as this once sleepy village now has a population of nearly a million people and the railroad is long gone

I've always wondered, seeing scenes such as this, what effects water treatment might have had on these people. Sure hope they weren't using it for cooking.

Absolutely fascinating. Love photos like these of faraway places that most of us will never experience. Hope you post more from your travels. Many thanks!
