Tank Cars

Some of the older tank cars had multiple domes(2 or 3).
Did this mean separate compartments for different materials?

Thanks

Hal

Several years ago back when I was a dispatcher for an oil company, we got oil from Exxon/Mobil from Baytown,Tx. We could get a single compartment tank car, a 2 compartment tank car or a 3 compartment tank car. Once they sent us 2 smaller tank cars that only had 1 number and were marked A&B.

You might have noticed that tanker trucks delivering gasolene to your local service station are the same way, for multiple grades and mixtures of fuels.

Here is an old one, photographed at Brightside on the Niles Canyon this past summer.
