Nostalgia & History > A non-Santa Fe Warbonnet WednesdayDate: 12/17/14 16:25 A non-Santa Fe Warbonnet Wednesday Author: MartyBernard I snapped this photograph at Tacoma, WA on November 6, 1996.
As background from Wikipedia, "The creation of BNSF started with the formation of a holding company, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation on September 22, 1995. This new holding company then purchased the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and Burlington Northern Railroad, and formally merged the railways into the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway on December 31, 1996." So this picture was taken just before the actual merger but well into the process. Shown in the picture are: -- BN 2273, a GP38-2, ex-SLSF 418 -- Warbonnet 8262, a SD75M built in January 1996 so it never had a AT&SF number, i.e., 8262 was its BNSF number. A close look at the picture shows BNSF on its long hood. -- BN 323, a SW15 ex-SLSF 323 Comments and corrections appreciated. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Date: 12/18/14 16:45 Re: A non-Santa Fe Warbonnet Wednesday Author: ATSFSD26 Thanks for sharing the photo, Marty.
