D&RGW 3011 heads out the Monarch Pass line to pick up it's empties at Poncha Jct and make it's
way up to the limestone mine on Monarch Pass. Shot 8/77.

Why would the empty gons been at Poncha Jct? Someone would have had to take them there from Salida and it would mean a crew for essentially nothing.

I followed a GP-30 train run to Monarch and watched its switching and return. It was fun to watch.

There might have been enough time at the end of the last crew, or a need to get the cars out of the smaller Salida yard at the time.

The gons would be taken out empty and split at either Poncha Jct or Maysville as the number
able to be taken to the mine was limited. It meant that some days the power went out light.

Did service on this line last until the embargo of the Tennessee Pass line, or did it end earlier?
