what happened to those plans?

Yes, getting to downtown Perris and the depot is terrific - but the scenery is so much better running south.

I have never seen operations South of the depot. Just curious how often it happens, if at all?

Disco Dave Foster and I were at one of the Railfan Days affairs and they ran right down to the
end of track, so I guess at least once in a while.

Happened two Saturdays ago. PE 717 did the honors.

True, but it'll all be houses in a few more years and they'll be wanting the rails out of their backyards....

So sad. Will this museum be swallowed up by urbanization? What does that mean for the long term?

Would be great if OERM could secure the old California Southern Railway grade south from the end of track to the edge of Canyon Lake...

... Before it's too late and housing invades the ROW!

What makes you think it hasn't happened already?

That right of way reverted back to the land owners decades ago.
You really think Santa Fe wanted to pay taxes on an abandoned right of way?

PHall, I'd like to make a suggestion: If you have helpful information to share, then share it. Instead, you answer questions with more questions which are worded to make a person feel stupid. The member who asked the question didn't gain any useful information from you. I respectfully ask that you either contribute or don't post.

Mark, I think perhaps you missed the first sentence of his response in you concentration on the rhetorical question in the second sentence. Unless for some reason you dismissed that statement as invalid out of hand. I'm not sure why you would have done that unless you have information to the contrary.

Obviously not, I don't believe Santa Fe had any desire to throw money at someting without profit after the line was relocated from Corona to Alberhill.

I believe that the ROW was owned by RCTC from the Perris "Wye" south of Perris Depot (Connection to the San Jacinto Branch), to a point south, which is either the end of track or "could" be Canyon Lake per se. But I don't know. It might be reverted to original owners and that might kill the possibility of extending it south. I do hope it's RCTC, because it might aid the OERM's right to reuild the old original California Southern to the shores of Canyon Lake...

RCTC does not own any R/W south of Museum. Part of it is an easement for a street, which the present stub is on.

To go south requires a lot of money and a bridge. That were the dreams 50+ years ago.
