NY Subway Signal Article
Author: Wildebeest

Yesterday, my local newspaper ran an AP story about the "1930s Technology" being used to operate the New York Subway. I found a more extensive on-line version at
<http://phys.org/news/2014-12-nyc-subways-slowly-1930s-era-technology.html.

Apparently, the MTA is still controlling switches and signals with General Railway Signal Model 2 "pistol grip" interlocking machines. Are these possibly the last GRS Model 2 machines in regular operation in North America?

Strange........ I always thought that New York was using GRS "NX" interlocking systems.

For the moment (unless it has already closed) U.D. Tower in Joliet had the same style pistol grips as shown in the article.

16th St. Tower in Chicago has the even older, skinny, 2 piece pistol grip levers.
