Maroon Monday - Suburban Streamliner
Author: Englewood

RI 660 and 648 lead a train of streamlined 2700's southbound on the Suburban Line at the 91st St. Interlocking home signal.
The tower and station are in the background. Beverly Jct. tower is a block to my right.
I didn't record the date but the prints say June 1969.

Hermitage Avenue. Photo was taken at 90th St. looking south.
Hermitage is on the Suburban Line.
Vincennes paralleled the Main Line.

Was the tower called 91st Street Tower or something else? What crossed there, the PRR? That is one location I missed back then. Every day is a Rock day.

Staffed and maintained by the CRI&P,
called 91st St by the CRI&P
called Rock Island Crossing by the PRR
protected the crossing of the CRI&P and PCC&StL

As I seem to recall that was the only signaled portion of the Blue Island suburban line except for those on either end of the sub. We had a distant signal approaching the 91st Street junction and the signals you see controlling the junction from the tower. I see they are pulling the early air conditioned suburban commuter cars.

Yes, there was a non-operative distant signal for northbound trains
about 93rd St. Between 91st St. and Gresham was ABS with the
current of traffic on both tracks.
