It's amazing "Old Rivets" still graces us today. On the other hand it's a shame that the EMD demonstrator didn't catch on.

Thanks for posting these images. The colorful paint job certainly said "Bicentennial". I'm surprised the "Conrail" lettering looks like there is a space between the "N' and "R" making it "CON RAIL".

That was probably the gaudiest of the bicentennial schemes.

That said, your images are enjoyable to see. Thanks for posting them.

It appears that the early "Con Rail" logo as shown here on "Old Rivets" could be created almost entirely using "Penn Central" lettering stencils. I wonder how they did the "O" though-- I guess they probably painted a "C" and then filled in the gap with a brush. (Most Conrail diesels just got a "CR" early on though.)

Shame how it looks today, would be nice to see it get repainted r/w/b.

Um. Considering a lot of museum collections, I think that except for the open windows and a little rust, she looks pretty darn good. Better than the two steamers behind here that seem to have their lagging and who knows what else removed.

The asbestos lagging was probably thrown on that asbestos waste pile in the first photo! Steam locomotives sure look funky when the lagging and sheathing is removed.

I was referring to the paint or lack of. I would imagine the museum won't be doing a lot of restoration to the equipment outside until they get the round house built they are planning.
