Nostalgia & History > Vacation 1993...pt. 3Date: 01/29/15 04:16 Vacation 1993...pt. 3 Author: biff Part three of my Vacation 1993 trip contains trains seen at Rochelle Illinois or nearby. This will include trains from the C&NW, BN and even a CN train. Its my understanding that at that in 1993 CN ran a few trains each way a day by way of the BN between Chicago and the Twin Cities.

The coal train was a good catch because they seldom ran over the hilly profile of the C&I. I'm thinking this might have been a flood detour. The CN had a haulage agreement with the BN in these days, and usually ran four trains a day, two each way, between Chicago and Duluth. These were 340 series trains on the BN. The power was usually what you shot. This train had a CN SD40 and two GTW SD40-2's, ex-UP. We also used to see DWP SD40's regularly. Experts can correct me, but I think Chana, shown in clip #2, is the highest point between Aurora and Savanna on the C&I. However, it might be Carter. I always get the two confused.
