Date: 03/05/15 05:16 Re: Around the Roundhouse in Roanoke, 1966, Part 3 Author: Phil That would be an auxiliary water tender or "canteen". The N&W used a lot of those canteens with their steam power. The circle in the upper right is where a headlight was mounted for reverse or back up moves..

I think the car is a canteen car providing extra water to steam locomotives so they wouldn't have to stop heavy coal drags for water.
