Nostalgia & History > Oh! Oh! at Cajon SummitDate: 03/29/15 19:56 Oh! Oh! at Cajon Summit Author: wabash2800 Date: 03/29/15 21:31 Re: Oh! Oh! at Cajon Summit Author: crackerjackhoghead Hence the rule requiring that the conductor and rear brakeman ride the helper engine and not the caboose. In fact, it wasn't all that long ago that the rules required the crew of a MU-ed diesel helper set to run from the end not against the train, for just this reason.

The UP helper crew nodded off coming up the hill and the engine was still working full throttle around the tight curve at the west end of old Summit. When the Santa Fe realized what was happening, somebody pulled the air. |
