Minnesota, between Staples and Duluth/Superior (WI)?
Don't know BN predecessor railroads but got the right general terrain.

If its between Staples and Duluth, its detouring on the NP.

My guess West of Lyndale Jct. on the St. Cloud line.

It looks to be a westbound in Minneapolis, MN on the St. Cloud line. That should be Theodore Wirth Parkway in the background. The photographer was probably standing on Golden Valley Road. Late March, April, or early May image, after noon.

An odd train, I would think, for the Monticello Line with that auto rack first out.  Maybe a detour
due to some sort of blockage on the NP/GN joint line to St. Cloud?

Most likely #405 to Winnipeg which was out early in the afternoon,. ran via
St. Cloud; and usually had three F's for [pwer.
