How did joint SOU/N&W passenger crew changes at Monroe work?
Author: krm152

Southern Railway (SOU) and Norfolk & Western (N&W) once jointly operated three trains from Washington DC via Lynchburg, Roanoke, Bristol, and Chattanooga to Birmingham, New Orleans, and Memphis respectively. N&W handled operations between Lynchburg and Bristol.
Monroe, seven miles north of Lynchburg, was the normal crew change point for Southern crews. Did Washington crews work this seven miles south of their district? Did N&W crews takeover at Monroe? How was this crew change worked out.
