SP 9310 heading East up Beaumont
Author: SP8595

1)Southern Pacific SD45T-2 9310 charges up Beaumont Pass with a mixture of four and six axle engines and past a pair of cantilever signal bridges In October of 1987. Although this engine certainly isn't the "pride of the fleet", at least it has a nice horn!

I'm not certain on the train symbol but it had loaded Autoracks on the headend and UPS trailers in the back so possibly the LAMFF?

2)A four engine mid-train helper set with SD40R 7362, a pair of Tunnel Motors and a NHL ex-BN SD45 help to keep things moving along. I don't remember the reason for all of the dust flying around, maybe it was a day with strong Santa Ana winds.

That's at the old Mons cross over. MONS is SNOW spelled backwards and upside down. Supposedly, when it snowed over Beaumont, that's were the snow line stopped. An "Old Head" told me that years ago.

Four unit mid-trains pushing on pig cars, what's not to like about that?

That sure is a nice looking pair.  A great looking consist on the headend AND helping!!  For me, the frosting on this cake is the BN Flare.  Thanks for sharing.

Great pair of shots John, looks like the "old" Hinda area. Some great chases were had, back in the day.

John:  Yes, it's the LAMFF with auto's for north Texas (Dallas, Ft. Worth, ect.) behind the power.

I believe the last pair of classic, paired cantilever signal bridges is at West Wellton, Arizona.

I think you're correct. There's still a single one, at the west end of Mecca, California.  I was wrong about Mons, Hinda is correct. Although, it's no longer there. UPRR moved it west about two miles. Actually a better location. SP really didn't use Hinda or Beaumont crossovers that much.
