Nostalgia & History > Niles CaliforniaDate: 05/03/15 16:18 Niles California Author: Railpax71 30 years ago now. The depot in those thirty years moved across the tracks for a while, then returned to the original location but rotated 180 degrees. The diamond is still there but the tower is gone. Connection to the Niles canyon line disappeared, and came back again.
Date: 05/04/15 01:57 Re: Niles California Author: Evan_Werkema I've seen a few diamonds with the ties laid out as shown, 45 degrees to either set of rails, but more with the ties in line with one of the two routes and 90 degrees to the other (Santa Fe's 1927 standard plan for crossings 75 to 90 degrees shows the ties in line with one of the routes). Anybody know of any practical field tests that showed one arrangement was superior to the other?
