In January 1974, GP40 #4710 leads Rock Island train #31 out of Memphis and into Arkansas via the Harahan Bridge over the Mississippi River.

Nice looking train! It's good to see images of a more healthy looking Rock, even if we do know the inevitable ending...

Lance, Ronnie Milsap's song "Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends" seems appropriate here!

Where was the Rock's yard located in Memphis?

Thanks,

Whoa... That's a 45 I just don't have in my collection, but you're right, the title sure does fit...

Rock Island's 4th Street Yard in Memphis was located a half mile or so east of Central Station - it was a stub end yard.  Here's a photo in happier days.  4th Street bordered it on the west side, and Calhoun (now G.E. Patterson Ave) was at the north end.  A large church occupies a big portion of the former property now.
