If the North Shore quit in Jan,63, it sure looks like the track has been gone a long time. They must have not wasted any time in getting the track up. --Jim Baker Date: 05/21/15 20:44 Re: Some More of Rick Burn's Photo -- CNW and MILW Author: MartyBernard Yes, that was the Shore Line. I don't know the date service on it was abandoned. Probably in the 50s. It was the Skokie Valley Route that lasted until January, 1963.
Marty Bernard Date: 05/22/15 10:01 Re: Some More of Rick Burn's Photo -- CNW and MILW Author: jcaestecker The Shore Line's service ceased in 1955. Not sure when the track was actually taken up. My friends and I used to explore the old stations in Winnetka and Indian Hill back in the mid-60s when we were ne'er-do-well elementary schoolers. They were boarded up, but if you were small enough, you could squeeze through and go in with a flashlight and still see some of the old interiors. It was rare for us to see freight moving on the C&NW, but every month or two, we managed to see a short freight or work train.
Thanks for sharing those photos Marty, -John |
