Did the CN&W have a third main track there at one time?

If yoy are referring to the first photo, The North Shore Shore Line ran in the vacant space to the right.

In Photo 1, that's a passenger Geep, and that wood reefer sure looks like an old Train-Miniature model! === === = === JLH

Or perhaps a "dual service" (freight and passenger) geep?

This is along the old Shore Line of the North Shore, is it not?

Yes, that was the Shore Line.  I don't know the date service on it was abandoned.  Probably in the 50s.  It was the Skokie Valley Route that lasted until January, 1963.

The Shore Line's service ceased in 1955.  Not sure when the track was actually taken up.  My friends and I used to explore the old stations in Winnetka and Indian Hill back in the mid-60s when we were ne'er-do-well elementary schoolers.  They were boarded up, but if you were small enough, you could squeeze through and go in with a flashlight and still see some of the old interiors.  It was rare for us to see freight moving on the C&NW, but every month or two, we managed to see a short freight or work train.

Thanks for sharing those photos Marty,

-John
