Nostalgia & History > UP DDA35 75 at Neals, UtahDate: 05/25/15 18:58 UP DDA35 75 at Neals, Utah Author: donstrack In one of the very cases I've seen, here is a photo taken by UP's own photographers, that includes the location -- Neals, Utah.
The caption on the back says, "Union Pacific #75 EMD DD35 5000 H.P. Diesel and freight train passing track gang neal Neals, Utah. 56745" But the problem is that Neals, Utah, is not shown in either the track profiles, or in the employee timetable of the period. My guess is, from the surrounding scenery (I think that's Red Rock Butte in the distance), and the parallel highway, that it is someplace in the Black Rock Desert, between Black Rock and Murdock, about 15 miles north of Milford. It sure is a nice photo. Hello Don, "Neels" appears with a 94-car siding at MP 625.9 in the older employee timetables; about 40 miles south of Lynndyl, 5 miles south of Clear Lake. Take care, Mark Date: 05/25/15 21:05 Re: UP DDA35 75 at Neals, Utah Author: SCAX3401 mamfahr Wrote:

Neels appears to have been between Bloom and Clear Lake. The Topographic Maps show the area as NEELS and Google Street View (yes, their car has gone down that parallel highway) matches the photo. So was Neels removed when CTC was added? The photo must have been taken from a signal bridge or some other trackside object as there is no overpasses in that location. Neels is shown in the Utah Div. timetable no. 45, dated Dec. 7, 1969, at MP 625.9 (Clear Lake is MP 631.0 and Bloom is MP 617.5). But Neels is *not* shown in Utah Div. timetable no. 47, dated May 1, 1972. Both Bloom and Clear Lake are shown. I don't have no. 46.
The LA&SL condensed profile book I have is dated Jan. 1, 1976. I'll correct the caption info. Don Strack Date: 05/26/15 07:16 Re: UP DDA35 75 at Neals, Utah Author: mamfahr > ... So was Neels removed when CTC was added?
Hello, CTC was installed there in the late 1940s, so that would have been part of some other project, possibly to lengthen sidings(?). Take care, Mark Date: 05/28/15 12:17 Re: UP DDA35 75 at Neals, Utah Author: Gonut1 View from a quadcopter?
