Sacramento RTD Light Rail, circa 1990
Author: MartyBernard

1. SRTD 125 with destination Butterfield in downtown Sacramento on the Transit Mall, September 9, 1988

2. SRTD 136 with destination Watt / I-80 at the 23rd Street Stop in March 1992

3. One of the really good things about light rail is that it can be inserted without ruining the urban fabric.  It can run on downtown streets; at 60 mph on private right of way, often ex-RR right of way; and is flexible enough to avoid obstacles like the branch line shown in this picture taken in March of 1992.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Marty- Siemens U2As and SD100s have a top speed of 55 MPH, and over speed at 58 MPH

the only cars we have capable of speeds greater than 55, are the newer AC traction cars.

When the Sacramento U2As were delivered, top speed was set at 50 MPH, with overspeed at 52 or so. We did get some up to 55 when the overspeed was not set right. The 50 limit was a warranty condition. When the waranty expired, the cars were allowed 55 MPH.
