few UP forty years ago . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. . . . here and there along the UP in 1975;
top: A westbound departing Cheyenne at sunset 8-75.
middle: Westbound local somewhere between Grand Island and North Platte, NE 8-75.
bottom: Westbound UP hog train Walnut, CA 10-75. Apparently engineer forgot to turn on headlight after a meet?

All 3 really nice of course. #2 is just one of the best of the year--a perfect example of many UP locals of that era.

Great photos. Thanks for posting them. It is hard to believe I have been here in Cheyenne for 39 years now. Your last photo is either the CLS with the hogs on the head end or something like the LAM eastbound with the empties. I love the local with the Geep. I always loved switching in the yard here with SW8's and an NW2. Nothing like the souds of an EMD 567 prime mover.

Great scenes JB! That GP20 leading all of these B-units is really swell:} Are those stock cars first out in that train?
