The first Bi-Centenial painted unit, SCL 1776
Author: acltrainman

This is the unit that started the painting of around 200 units in Bi-centenial paint schemes on Class 1, Shortlines and even Industrial units. Shot 01/14/1973 at Uceta Shops Tampa, FL.

Thanks for posting.

That unit is already approaching a year and a half in that paint on the date of your photo. Definitely a case of forward thinking by the SCL.

I saw that unit only once back in the mid 70's leading a west bound train on the Georgia Railroad. I was around 13 years old and did not have a camera.

Has anyone seen a night photo of this engine with the on board lights lit up?

I believe there was a postcard being sold back in the '70s that was a photo of the unit lit at night. Might find one on ebay or at a memorabilia show.
