Around Utica, NY - 1977
Author: train1275

Here are a few in and around Utica, NY in the early days of Conrail.

1. An SW-1 comes west with a few cars and a transfer caboose. There used to be a few SW-1's based in Utica for light Travelling Switcher work. Seems this guy had been working over on the Broad Street line on the south side of Union station servicing industrial tracks before coming west and crossing over and backing into the yard by old Tower 31. In this scene he is passing the Union Station platforms. July 25, 1977.

2. It used to be there were a pair of trains that came out of Mechanicville, NY on the B&M to Dewitt. Here are B&M GP-9's behind a PC U-boat and a Conail lettered ex PC cabose on the North Control siding waiting to head west to Dewitt.

3. During fall foliage on October 14, 1977 PC (ex NYC) U25B #2539 leads U23B #2732 and an unidentified ex EL six axle GE eastbound at Oneida, NY between Syracuse and Utica.

That same day (10-14-77) the westbound "Water Level Express" comes west running about 20 minutes late at Verona, NY between Rome and Oneida. I was up on the Route 31 overpass shooting while my Aunt was down at trackside. Rohr Turbos were assigned Amtrak trains in Empire Service on this route for many years.
