Marty Bernard Date: 07/06/15 13:53 Re: Monty Powell and Maroon Monday Author: NebraskaZephyr Notice the differences in these two GP7s, separated by only 10 numbers on the roster:
-- Diagonal striping (what's left of it) on the 1283 vs. a solid white frame stripe on the 1293; -- Single-note horn on the 1283, multi-chime horn on the 1293. If that wasn't enough, the 1293 is unique as it is numbered in the middle of a block of GP7s (1288-1299) with "torpedo tube" air resevoirs and steam boilers, yet it has neither. This is because it was a one-unit order, completed in May 1953. Only on the Rock Island!! Thanks, Bob, for sharing Monty's excellent photo! Date: 07/07/15 04:37 Re: Monty Powell and Maroon Monday Author: ddg Back when "Caterpillar Yellow" was still the old chrome yellow. I think that changed in the 70s sometime, to the present color. Looks like a D-6 or a 7.
