Nah, making the right turn under NY ave, notching it up for the fast run up the Magruder Branch. Date: 07/06/15 16:35 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: BuddPullman Nice! Thanks.
Date: 07/06/15 20:31 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: MartyBernard The train is northbound having just left Union Station for a fast run up the NEC. It would be on a closer track if it were headed for the wye or coach yard.

C tower, located just south of the New York Avenue bridge, was demolished when the Washington Metro Red line was built. > > Marty Bernard Date: 07/06/15 21:57 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: The_Chief_Way I appreciate the going-away shot, showing 3 parlor cars on the rear.

Marty Date: 07/07/15 07:00 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: twropr Up until the PC merger, the Afternoon Congressional was quite a train. #152 has a WAS-Montreal sleeper in the head-end. It was followed by at least 5 (and as many as 10 on holidays) coaches, a twin unit diner, and 3-5 parlors. The last parlor was a square-end obs. #153 had the parlors head out, followed by the twin unit and coaches. #153 was often a few cars longer because on weekends/holidays it carried a few P70 coaches on the rear that were cut off in Baltimore.
Andy Date: 07/07/15 07:09 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: aehouse No evidence of a diner; odd for a train carrying first class cars.
Art House Date: 07/07/15 13:00 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: prrmpup The train also carried an all drawing room parlor car, which I believe was unique to that train.
Date: 07/07/15 13:17 Re: The Afternoon Congressional with a GG1 Author: Jimbo Looks like the second car is one of the former PRR 21 Roomette "INN" series Pullmans converted about 1964 to coaches. Two of those were on the 611 excursions this past weekend out of Roanoke. The window line is unique.

Retired off the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1968 with 50 years of service. Don't see that very often anymore.
I have his railroad Hamilton watch and its case, with its certification checks. Wish I had his logbooks.... |
