Traction Action: Emeryville, Calif.

One more for you Key fans before I begin my Amtrak vacation trip.

A westbound multi-unit F-train has just departed San Pablo Avenue in 1955 and the sun shows it's late afternoon. Why is there nobody in the prized railfan seat? That extra unit will probably be cut off in a few minutes at the Division 1 yard. Or there is a good possibility the entire consist is done for the day and the motorman didn't change the destination sign to "local service".

Signal 200 was the eastward end of Train Control (cab signal operation). Its counterpart was 199 and this train is now into TC territory.

Nothing framed in this photo remains today except for the Oakland hills in the distance and maybe the pavement on the Avenue. Emeryville has reinvented itself.

Very nice, Stash. And a well composed photo with the hills in the background. And to say Everyville "reinvented itself" is certainly an understatement. I'd call it a mini Slicion Valley between Berkeley and Oakland, anchored with a IKEA outlent.
Have a great train trip!

Amtrak hasn't let me down yet. Good people, especially on 11/14. Looking forward to the Pacific Parlor. I rode SP trains back in the day and don't recall them as too great.
