North West Steel & Wire ?
Author: miralomarail

I know Steam is gone from Sterling, IL and I read in Railfan Magazine that the Plant went belly up, so has anyone else takened over their Plant ?
On Google Maps I can see long lines of Dead Diesel Locomotives

Just my opinion but, I think your "Google Maps" view is probably some 25 years old , or more. There haven't been any locomotives lined up for scrap at Northwestern Steal and Wire for many, many, many years.

Many of the ex. SP/UP MK rebuilt SD40-2s were stored there.  Some of which have since been sold to NRE.  Photo attached taken 2014-08-02. Part of the mill is now owned by Azcon.

The 0-8-0 photo is excellent.  Do you have a location and a date?

Northwestern Steel & Wire was located in Sterling, IL.  The photo's filename suggests it was taken in November 1980, one month before SW1001's replaced the last of the 0-8-0's.

Everything we had heard said, speak to the guard and get permission for photo's, however on the Satursay we were there it was very Cold, even Colder then Germeny was !  The Guard had a bucket of steaming water he took in his shack, where he stayed while we enjoyed watching # 10 work
