Nostalgia & History > Mural Monday--Warbonnet in Duarte CADate: 08/03/15 17:54 Mural Monday--Warbonnet in Duarte CA Author: DNRY122 This building on the north side of the Gold Line Foothill Extension, west of the Buena Vista Ave. grade crossing in Duarte CA has received some exterior decoration that appears to be copied from a vintage postcard. (should have checked and retaken the closeup). The locomotive is a Santa Fe "E" unit from the late 30s-early 40s, and it would take some hunting to find a railroad track with orange groves on either side nowadays.

Bill Deaver Tehachapi, CA Date: 08/05/15 16:49 Re: Mural Monday--Warbonnet in Duarte CA Author: BuddPullman Here is an interesting view of a large framed Santa Fe publicity photo of the first Super Chief that has been hand tinted. The poster size publicity photo shows the train on a curve presumably in multiple main territory (A tree lined area, say Illinois or Missouri or California?) The clouds are in the sky, etc.
This image was revised on the post card (and reversed) to represent a western scene with fruit trees and mountains. Curios to know how many times this photo showed up in Santa Fe promotional material? |
