few SP "Haulers" in LA Basin . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

.  .  .  SP used to run, and today UP still does, run "haulers" from main yards to various outlying points and branches in Southern CA. Back in the day, they ran alot of haulers to just about every branch. In the eighties they often ran with matched sets of power. Here are just a few;
top: Import hauler eastbound on SP San Pedro Branch along Alameda Street in Compton, CA 5-86.
middle: Dolores hauler coming off Firestone Blvd overpass on exPE Wilmington branch in Watts, CA 3-86. It was rare to see newer power on the haulers.
bottom: Anaheim hauler coming off double track on Puente branch in Santa Fe Springs, CA 7-86.

Thanks for a great glimpse into how things used to be around SoCal, which doesn't seem all that long ago.  Thanks for posting.

Any "classic" SP in California of the 70's and 80's is all gravy to me!  Keep'em coming!

Yes, in the late 1980's it was common to see them on the Anaheim Hauler and the GP40X's on the Buena Park hauler.  But it was always possible to any power on any hauler out of West Colton.

Great classic power on all of them, but I especially like the GE's in the second shot.  I guess I'd forgotten how well standard cab GE's look!
