Didn't make it to the ocean.

I was musing about something that might be fun. How many railroads over the years had "Pacific" in their name but never reached the Pacific? Go!

I beleive there were two Atlantic & Pacifics--one that was a Missouri Pacific predecessor and the other the Santa Fe.

The answer I would like to know is "which railroad missed the Pacific part by the most distance? Maybe CNO&TP?

Ooops, I read the question as "didn't reach a part of their name" and was thinking of the Seattle part of SP&S.

The Tonopah and Tidewater never reaches its namesake locations directly.  It was never even close to getting to "Tidewater" at San Diego or so somewhere close as planned.  They did reach Tonopah by operating over another railroad (Las Vegas and Tonoaph) that they acquirred late in the company's history.

I used to keep snapshots of everywhere I found Espee actually came within view of its namesake ocean. There were several but most were novelties. All in an envelope buried in back of one of my file drawers, now.
