The Montreal Limited's Last Autumn
Author: aehouse

It's October, 1970, and Delaware and Hudson's Montreal Limited is in the autumn not only of the year, but of its history.  Northbound train No. 9 pauses at Whitehall, N.Y., behind a D&H Alco PA, and consists this night of just five cars: a D&H (former D&RGW) baggage-express, a 6 double bedroom/buffet lounge sleeper (ex-New York Central), a 10 Roomette/6 double bedroom (also ex-NYC) sleeper, and two D&H--former Rio Grande--coaches.  With the coming of Amtrak the following May, the D&H overnighter--and its daytime counterpart on the New York-Montreal route, the Laurentian--will be no more.

That's a nice pocket streamliner from the pre-Amtrak era.

Great photos! Night photography of passenger trains lost a lot of their drama when steam heating was replaced with HEP.

Pure magic! Fabulous photos, #1 so stylized in effect to be art, #2 loaded with information to boot, the ex-DRG&W "Robert R. Young" cars are prominent. Thanks for posting.
Amazing.
